Mother-Son Cruise Adventures: Our Excursions in Key West & Nassau

Nick and I just had an amazing mother-son cruise on the Celebrity Silhouette, which is a beautiful cruise ship! When Indiana is buried under snow, nothing feels better than stepping off a ship into sunshine and adventure — and that’s exactly what Nick and I found in Key West and Nassau!

If you’ve followed our travels, you know Nick is my favorite travel buddy, and we both love exploring new places together. This mother-son getaway gave us the perfect excuse to soak up some sun, try new things, and make unforgettable memories. Here’s a look at the highlights from our time ashore:

Key West: Trolleys, Pie, and Picture-Perfect Moments

Our first stop was Key West, a destination that’s full of quirky charm and history. To make the most of our time, we hopped on the Hop On Hop Off Trolley, which is such a fun and easy way to explore the island. The trolley took us to all the iconic spots — and of course, we had a checklist of must-dos:

Kermit’s for Key Lime Pie – No trip to Key West is complete without a slice (or two). Sweet, tart, and refreshing — exactly what we needed!

Jimmy Buffett’s Studio – As Parrothead fans, we couldn’t resist snapping a few photos in front of the famous recording studio where so many island-vibe hits were born.

Southernmost Point – Standing just 90 miles from Cuba at this iconic landmark is a Key West rite of passage. It’s one of those “we were here” photo moments we’ll always remember.

Sunshine & Strolling – After weeks of snow back home, simply being outside in the warm breeze felt like paradise. Key West’s laid-back vibe, colorful streets, and island energy were the perfect antidote to winter.

Nassau: Sharks, Slides & Shakes at Atlantis

Day two brought us to Nassau, Bahamas, where we had one big plan: a day at Atlantis! This resort is famous for its Dig & Aquapark, and we were ready to dive in — literally.

First stop? Shake Shack for burgers and, of course, a chocolate shake. Nick never misses a chance for a good burger, and we needed fuel for all the fun ahead.

Then it was time to hit the waterslides, and let me tell you — Atlantis does not disappoint! Our absolute favorite was the Leap of Faith, a thrilling plunge that shoots you through a clear tunnel surrounded by sharks. It’s part adrenaline rush, part “wait, did that really just happen?” and fully unforgettable.

We spent the rest of the day exploring the aquariums and just soaking up the Bahamian sunshine. It was the perfect mix of thrills, chills, and tropical beauty.

Why These Moments Matter

As a mom (and a travel agent), trips like this remind me why I love what I do. It’s not just about the destination or the ship — it’s about the moments in between. Sharing Key Lime Pie, screaming our heads off on a waterslide, or just walking hand-in-hand down a sunny street — these are the memories we’ll both treasure forever.

And the best part? I get to help my clients create their own magical moments — whether it’s on a cruise, at a theme park, or anywhere else their heart desires.

If you’re dreaming of your own family adventure, I’d love to help you plan it — and my services are always free!

Until the next adventure,
Stacey
